Leveraging AMD-based low-power computing solutions
Bangalore, July 23, 2007: Wipro Infotech, the India, Middle East and Asia Pacific IT Business Unit of Wipro Ltd., announced today the launch of Wipro Protos - a range of desktops which consumes up to twenty five percent less power when compared to a conventional desktop. Wipro PROTOS essentially caters to the need of basic computing requirement at an affordable price with the promise of much lower power consumption.

Wipro is the first Indian OEM to market this product that is based on AMD's low-power computing solutions under the brand name "PROTOS". Protos devices are another proof point in support of the 50X15 initiative - a global initiative founded by AMD - to help enable affordable Internet access and low-power computing capability for 50 percent of the world's population by the year 2015. To date, key high growth markets such as India, have seen IT access primarily benefit the urban population. With the introduction of such robust and cost effective devices, the challenges of digital divide will be effectively addressed.
